As an attorney, my purpose has always been clear: to help my clients resolve complex environmental issues. But, as a colleague, since the first week of the coronavirus quarantine, I have had a new, additional purpose: to help myself, my Arnold & Porter colleagues, our families and friends, find a moment of peace and tranquility during these challenging times.
To this end, I began leading a daily meditation practice in March, 2020. The goal of this daily meditation practice has been to help relieve stress and enhance a sense of community despite our collective isolation. In addition, by expanding our awareness of joy, lovingkindness, hope, resilience, courage, gratitude, wellbeing and many other themes, I have tried to help each of us find greater positivity and peace in our lives.
On any given day, we have had as many as 400 people join our meditation from around the world. With this podcast, I welcome you to enjoy these meditations at your leisure.
I am very grateful for many teachers. I have had the good fortune to have studied mindfulness and meditation personally with Deepak Chopra and Roger Gabriel, and many of the ideas in these meditations come from lessons I have learned from Deepak and Roger. In addition, I have studied the writings of many other teachers -- including Thich Nhat Hanh, Ram Dass, Swami Satchidananda, Rabbi Joseph Gelberman, Brother David Steindl-Rast, Jon Kabat-Zinn, and others. I hope you enjoy these meditations.
